Yes! We are in Genova!

After days of rain, cars going in the wrong direction, cars not stopping, occasionally accidently sleeping in and police shooing us away, we finally got all the way to Genova - within two hours! After only five minutes the second car who passed me stopped, and just happened to be a big bustaxi which we all could fit in nicely. He took us to Ceriale a little bit further from Albenga, and there the first guy Kristopher spotted was a guy with a campervan. We've talked about going with one of those for so long, having it as one of our goals in the means of travel - and guess what? After confirming with his wife, Benje called us over and we where off!

Benje and Heather turned out to be the nicest couple, and we didn't stop talking during the whole journey. They where on their way to Rome to their boat they had there: they had been trying to sail around the world before but ended their journey there after some bad weather, and they had a lot of good stories to tell.

Now we're on the roof above Elenas apartment using her wifi, drinking tee and eating cookies, chatting in the sun.

Tea on Elenas roof

It looks like we'll keep hitching tomorrow, all the way to Venice, so we'll keep you updated!

Thanks again Heather and Benje, we had such a nice time with you!

Have a nice day everyone.

Love,
Jenny

Aargh, hitchhiking in Italy!

So we´ve been trying to hitchhike, but it remains hard. The weather has been against us, and so has our luck... when it comes to cars stopping. Just hoping that some of the tips Elena gave us will get us somewhere tomorrow - then we´ll be at it again! Although weekends are even harder, we have to catch a good day when it´s there, cause weather you can never rely on.

Somehow though, we´ve never had bad luck when it comes to people. We always seem to find the right person at the right time. In Italy we´ve also found out there´s a lot of friendly, happy people all around! And the environment here is so beautiful, it´s mindblowing.

Here we´ve been dumspterdiving, as usual nowadays. Just have to be a little bit more careful here, since it was made illegal a couple of years ago. But one night we found a whole bag full of sweets and pastries, and yesterday we dumpsterdived a couple of real nice boots for me; almost brand new ! Since our shoes been leaking and I atleast strongly been wishing for boots, this felt like heaven-sent! (it´s like our life is sometimes like something out of "The Truman Show"; all these things are happening to us just when we want or need it the most, like manufactured by someone... or something).

Anyway, today we went to ask for bread in a bakery, and the cutest little lady at the register just smiled at us and said "Si, si" and went into the back room. "Un momento, un momento." And then she came out with a bag full of so good-tasting bread... that we know, cause we´ve ate them all already!

So we are full, happy and excited for tomorrow. Wish us luck! Hopefully we´ll be in Genova by  the evening.

Love
/Jenny

Rusted From the Rain

So our shoes and clothes are almost finished drying from our few days walking around in the rain and sleeping outside. We have been really lucky to have a place to stay for the last couple days, and it has given us a chance to do lots of things that we have needed to do! Wash clothes, fix holes, etc. But we are checking the weather, and think that we will head out of Imperia on Friday.

Our goal is Genova, where we will stay for maybe one, or two days, and then head to Milano. I think from now on, we are going to try and head down to Greece where it is dry and warm, as fast as possible! We have learned how lame it is to be stuck in the rain with nowhere to sleep!

We will update before we head out!

Safe and sound

Hi everyone! I can't be long, just wanted to say that we are fine, indoors for a few days after spending some harsh nights on the streets. In the rain. One night we spent on a floor full of ants in the toilet of a tullstation, but was shood away by the cops!

Now we've gotten taken care of by a cool Italian girl named Elena, who turned out to be a little goldmine when it comes to hitchhiking in Italy; she hitched over 30000 cars and over 500000 km! And Italy is supposed to be the hardest country to hitchhike in, but since she can do it, we can as well!:)

She gave us a lot of tips and hints... and her apartment and the street outside just happened to be in a small sequence of the first Bourne Identity movie! So cool...

But have to write more about that later: bad wifi, poor battery.

See ya!

Jeremy Marie

We have been inspired by lots of different travelers along this trip.  One that really inspired us was Jeremy.  He is a motivated guy from France, who is close to completing his trip around the world.  Jeremy has never used a plane, or a train, but uses hitchhiking as his sole mode of transportation.

Jeremy had his first taste of hitchhiking in Ireland.  At that time, it was just for the pleasure of hitching and seeing the country while he was living abroad in Whales.  Later on, he started to travel some of Europe, and got bit by the travel bug.  "Hitch-hiking is for me another thing than a way to move, it is an unexplainable passion".  So far, Jeremy has hit 61 countries, and is currently in Vermont, USA.  Some countries he has been in include: Egypt, Syria, South Africa, Brazil, Ethiopia, Croatia and Greece!

We have been Lucky enough to chat a little with Jeremy over the past couple weeks, and he is a really inspirational guy to us! He has given us more than a few tips, and some insight on hitchhiking.  We are also pretty excited about getting to Asia now, after his last email; "...I was thinking about your trip, you will discover very soon Istanbul: the gate to Asia. I guess that it will be a highlight of your trip without any doubt!".

We hope to succeed on our trip as Jeremy has - and maybe one day meet him in person.

Check him out on his website at:

Talk to you soon!

-Liam.
